10/22/2010 Friday

I decided to sew up a couple of dresses for our granddaughter's first birthday!
I cut them both out at the same time, on the living room floor.
I'm a "floor sitter", finding it comfortable to work or sprawl on the floor!
The first dress is done and I'm sewing on some lace trim.

And...it's curtain camoflouge! I used some of the cloth left from making curtains for the kitchen cabinets!
Since her parents both hunt, the dress is sure to be a big hit!

I dug the Jerusalem artichokes today.
It's cool how the tubers grow on those stem thingys creeping out from the rootball.
The plants get tall, like Sunflowers.
And there's the pile, from the 12 plants we got from a friend in July.

I brought a handful into the house to eat, then put the rest in a cloth bag inside a paper feed sack and buried them in the middle of the raised bed, down as deep as I could scrape the ground.
Then I heaped all the dirt up over it. I'm not sure you can see the mound of dirt in the middle.
In the spring I'll replant them all. There are dozens, and you do it like potatoes. You make sure there's a bug or "eye" on each piece you plant.
So you can cut a single root in to quite a few pieces.
We hope to get a bunch of it started. It will propogate itself and we'll have lots of it.
It makes good animal feed, too.
No matter how long the goatling eats, he still "baaaahh"'s when Steven drags him back to the pen! He was jumping up, hoping for treats as I came out of the garden.
Talk about a "bottomless pits"!
Maybe instead of calling people "pigs" when they hog up food, we should call them "goats"!
Oh wait...we're not supposed to call each other names at all!
My bad!
The cat, trying to compete with the goat, spreads herself over two pillows.
"Do I look fat yet?"
"Must eat more mice..."
