Tuesday Huckleberry picking

Steven made huckleberry pancakes for breakfast. Then he went out and put seam sealer on our tent. He set it up yesterday and let it air out. He may use it next month during bow season.
I worked on potatoes. Over the last couple days I peeled the potatoes out of the last bin from the root cellar from last year's garden and Steven sliced them. Then I pre-cooked them. I packed some into jars this morning and ran 7 quarts through the pressure canner, and I spread the remaining slices on 3 dehydrator trays. I made a pan of muffins, and then we left to go huckleberry picking.

On the way there we went through a "construction" zone where they were blowing dirt out of the cracks in the road and spreading this tar stuff in them. An oncoming car threw a rock up on our windshield and we got this chip. It'll probably spread into a big crack before we ever get a chance to have it fixed.

Steven, picking huckleberries.

Steven, picking huckleberries closer to me!

We're done picking huckleberries, and this is me next to the road where we parked, pulling Self-Heal plants to dry and store.

On the way home we stopped to milk Kathleen's goat, "Pinky". She was in Libby at a political meeting, and her husband was over in the Park at work.

We got a total of around 3 gallons today, for a year's total of 9 gallons. This is out on the porch. I was picking leaves and sticks out of the berry buckets and tossing them in the 3rd bucket. The kitten came out and spread herself around the buckets and purred herself to sleep.
