Fri. 08/27/10 Hiking to Stahl Peak

Today we hiked to Stahl Peak. It was almost 11 miles round trip on the trail we took.

This is from the car (you can see the radio antenna...). Way up on the sort-of bare peak you can see the white dot that is the fire look-out tower, otherwise known as "Montana lighthouses"!

These white flowers are "Bear Grass".

A small lake.

Same lake with Telephoto.

Random shot of Steven as we went through some switchbacks.

This is near the top.

There's Steven and Marge looking out from the upper level of the look-out.

Here's the view from the look-out.

The look-out is set up to be an emergency shelter, too, if needed. It was nice to get in out of the wind. We ate our snacks inside.

Scenery on the way down.

That's the trail we hiked in on. The lower part is a gated, overgrown road, then becomes a hiking trail. Our car is in the trees below that last part.

We found some wild strawberries. That's me (left) and Marge picking berries.
I don't know what these are...yet.

It was cold when we got home, so we covered the squash, tomatoes, and potatoes. Good thing, too, since it got down to 30.
