We chopped enough onions to fill 7 trays for drying. The house smells like onions. Our hands smell like onions. Our clothes probably smell like onions. It rained most of last night and all morning today. Tristan got sent home from work because of rain. He ran his generator, which means I could run my dehydrator, even though it was cloudy. On sunny days I can use my electric dehydrator off the solar panels.

When we moved here we spent the first year, us, kids and all, in the original 16' x 32' cabin. There was no room for a bathtub so the boys carried it in once a week and set it by the woodstove. After baths we'd bail it out, then carry it back outside. Then after we built the addition with bedrooms we had a small "bathtub room", but still no plumbing. So for another year or two we had a room we could leave the bathtub in, but still had to bail it out and dump the water outside. We also had to heat the water on the woodstove in a huge kettle and use that for baths. No running water. Then we rearranged things again and the new bathtub room was in a place where we could make a drain! What a joy to be able to just PULL a PLUG and watch the water drain away! Still had to use the kettle for water. No running water.
This is the other corner of Becky's old room. The composting toilet will go there. It'll be weird to have "indoor facilities", and I expect we'll still make trips to the outhouse most of the time, at least for a while!

Still no running water, but the shower is nice, and it drains!
Eventually we'll have an RV tank upstairs and there will be gravity-flow water in the shower. The water will be heated by the woodstove (copper pipe coils around the stovepipe) when the weather is cold enough to use the woodstove, and by the sun the rest of the time.
